Congratulations on the adoption of your new family member!

Thank you for choosing the Friends For The Dearborn Animal Shelter for the adoption of your new 4-legged family member.  We want to help make sure that you enjoy  a happy life together.

As a first step, you received an adoption packet that we hope assists in a smooth transition for your new pet and your entire family.

This adoption packet includes two timely issues that we want to highlight for you so you do not miss out on the benefits:

(1) Shelter Care Pet Insurance (you must contact them within 10 days of your pet adoption):   The second sheet in your adoption packet contains information on Shelter Care Pet Insurance.  This is health insurance for your pet and the first month of coverage is only $1.  But, you must contact them within 10 days of your pet's adoption to secure this discounted rate.   It then takes two (2) days for the insurance to become activated, so please contact them as soon as possible.  Although we hope that your new pet remains healthy,  this insurance can help defray any medical costs that may accrue during the first month after the adoption.  In addition, you may keep your pet enrolled in the insurance program after the first month, for a monthly premium cost.   Please contact Shelter Care to enroll,  www.sheltercare.com or call 1-877-707-7297.

(2) Shelter Animal Trainer: Pet and owner education is a natural part of the adoption process; it takes time to get used to each other.  Should you have behavioral challenges with your pet and need assistance, we have a pet trainer on staff that specializes in dogs and cats.   She is here to help you with any problems you may experience.  Please call her at the first sign of a problem.  We also urge you to consider training classes and we offer both group classes and individual session (read more and check our the schedule).  A training class can help avoid and help solve problems.  You can contact our trainer, Linda, at daslthomas@aol.com.

We are continually working to improve our adoption experience and would appreciate it if you would take a moment to help us with your insights - it is only 5 brief questions and should take you only a minute or two.  To say thanks, we'll then link you to a Ready Reference Sheet of Shelter Services for your new pet.
