Thank you for considering a new pet from the Dearborn Animal Shelter.  We are proud of our reputation for quality animal care and friendly customer service.  Please explore our site for the information you need and contact us for additional assistance:
   - At any time, by emailing us at friends@dearborn-animals.com
   - During normal business hours at (313) 943-2697

We recommend that you:

1. Complete and submit our Adoption Application even if you have not yet selected your new family member (Cat Adoption Questionnaire  -or-  Dog Adoption Questionnaire).  We can qualify your adoption in advance to avoid any delays in the adoption process.

2.  View our Adoptable Pets to select the one or ones you might be interested in.  If you want help selecting your new pet or if you can not find the pet you are looking for, please register with our  Meet Your Match service, the "e-Harmony" of finding you new best friend.  You may also visit our "Best Little Cat House in Town" to see our cats in action - our KittyKam (a live web cam) .

3.  Visit the shelter (2661 Greenfield, Dearborn) to meet with the pet(s) you have selected.
It is important that you spend time with you potential new pet.  There are staff members and volunteers at the Shelter who will get the animal out of the cage for you and introduce you.  They can also answer any questions you may have about the history and behavior of the animal.  We are there to help you.

4.  Work with one of our adoption counselors to complete your adoption.  They also can answer any questions you may have.  If the result of this meeting is that both the Shelter and you agree that this is the right pet for you, some additional checking of the information you provided will take place.  Again, we want this to be a good adoption for you and the pet, so this checking is to ensure the long term success of your adoption.

5.  Sign the Adoption Agreement which asks you to agree to certain things for the ongoing care of your future family member -and- pay our very affordable adoption fee.

6.  Prepare your home and your family for your new family member.

7.  Take your new family member home.  Please remember to properly introduce them.

8.  Remember to activate your Shelter Care Insurance IMMEDIATELY!

9.  Take our online Adoption Survey to help us improve our service to you.  Also a few weeks after the adoption, one of our staff or volunteers will give you a call.  This will provide you an opportunity to ask any questions that have come up since the adoption.   We want to make sure that everything is going well and to provide any additional help that we can.  If you are having any problems, please don't wait for us to call you, contact us.

10.  Take advantage of our services including our online information library, our training classes, and our Pooch Parties.

11.  Contact us at any time for assistance - call (313.943.2697) or click..
