Thanking and Recognizing Our Generous Donors

We have truly touched and heartened by the outpouring of support from the community - both near and far.  We could never have managed without your help and we sincerely thank you.

We thought you might be interested in a few of the stories.

Our first hastily made sign when the
                           rescue began.

Almost every  donation arrived with a note of support.  When this one came with "Get Well Wishes" for the dogs, we sobbed.

We also received notes for the dogs from other dogs.  (Tears again!)

From a note dated 7/25:

"Four weeks ago, I adopted a little special-needs Shih Tzu, and when your story hit the news media over the last few days, my heart just broke for all the little ones you will be helping for a while to come.

I hope this donation will help and that these little ones will one day soon have loving, caring homes."

Dorothy Shook of Novi

From a note dated 7/27:

"You guys are doing an awesome job!!

Thank you to each one of you who give of yourself and your time for all of the animals who come to you!

I hope the "placeable" chi-chis find a loving home where they will feel sae and NORMAL!!"

The Anderzak Family

This darling note card came from June in Grosse Pointe.  She is 88 years old and handicapped.  She just lost her 12 year old Chihuahua, Charro,  who was rescued when she was five.

People brought in much needed food, crates, carriers, small collars and leashes, blankets, everything they thought might help... and it all has.

A mother and daughter brought in the soft dog blankets shown at right.  The daughter had learned how to sew to do these for the dogs.  Now every adopted Chihuahua will go home with his or her own blanket.

Shown at left are some of the ladies of The Recipe Club of the Dearborn Senior Center.  They made up baskets full of treats and drinks for the staff and volunteers in appreciation for all the work for the Chihuahuas these past couple of weeks.

On behalf of all of the staff of the Dearborn Animal Shelter, we want to extend a grateful thank you to our volunteer family.  Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter volunteers have donated countless hours, energy, and resources to care for the rescued chihuahuas.  We wouldn't be able to do this without you!  Thank you for all of your support.  If you are interested in joining the Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter Volunteer Family, please contact Laura Sorensen at DASSorensen@aol.com.

Community Gets Creative to Help Raise Cash

Two recent fundraisers creatively helped raise money to assist with the additional expenses the shelter is incurring as we care for the rescued Chihuahuas.  Associated Community Services raised $1,413.25, by sponsoring a "jeans day" where their stylish staff made donations to dress in denim.

Meanwhile, the Dombrowski family graciously hosted a "Breakfast in the Park' that raised $241.

We thank everyone involved for their creativity and generosity!

Nicole Salem is in the WCSX morning show with Deminski & Doyle and is a pet lover extaordinnaire.  She also has a Chihuahua named Lacy at home who wanted to help her fellow furry friends.  Nicole is challenging WCSX listeners to Donate Now to the Dearborn Animal Shelter to help raise funds for the Chihuahuas and all of the adoptable animals.  Our sincere thanks to Nicole.
