A Peek into Foster Care Pups

These little dogs are very special.  They had never seen sunlight or grass and had never been handled.  For many of them, human contact was a whole new experience.  All were very frightened at first, but with lots of love and patience, they learned to trust.  They each did it in their own way and some took longer than others.  The truly fearful ones went to our wonderful foster care families for the additional help that they needed before going to their forever homes.  These are some of those pups.

Elfy and Rosie

Elfy is around 8 years old, he enjoys lounging on his pillow and is getting curious when outside in the yard.  He goes for occasional walks and is getting used to meeting people.   Rosy is around 2 years old. She is playful, enjoys both of my dogs and the cat. She runs around the yard like a puppy and sometimes carrys toys with her.  She enjoys walking on a leash and has learned the down cue and the here cue while attending a beginner class.  They usually cuddle together to sleep on a pillow.

Just wanted to send a note about my new pup - Bella - you would know her as P002.    She is practically housebroken and is thriving,  She is a funny girl and is getting used to her new home.      -- Thanks again,   Tracey Smart, 9/7/09

    Marty

Marty is doing fantastic.  He was so scared and shy when he first got here.  Everything seemed unfamiliar to him, I'm sure.  Now he's curious and happy and his self-confidence improves daily!

He loves going out in the yard. He runs back and forth, runs circles around Martha (my elderly chihuahua, it's hysterical) and comes right up to me for head scritches when I'm sitting outside watching him and Martha.  When he first got here, he acted like he'd never been pet or kissed.  Now he eats it up :)  He loves to roll in the grass. He'll get on his back and wiggle back and forth and end up moving 10 feet across the grass while on his back.

He's fantastic with Martha and the cats.  He is curious and wants to engage with them, but doesn't chase them or harass them.

Marty's housebreaking is coming along.  He's about 90% there.  I have him in bellyband because he was marking a little bit in between potty breaks, but it's almost stopped now.  He's super good about not going in the crate.  He loves his crate and doesn't mind being in it. Sometimes he'll go in there for naps during the day (it's in the kitchen area so my home office is right there.

I took him to the dog park last week and he absolutely loved it!  He loved running with the big dogs.  He got some exposure to kids and other people there and was really good about it.  He let another lady pick him up and hold him, which I thought was pretty remarkable.  So he's bonded to me, but not exclusively.

If there's anything else specifically you need to know, just ask and I'll fill you in.    -- Thanks, Tanya Irwin, 9/14/09

  Mr. Happy and Charlie Brown

Photos coming soon

The first picture is Mr. Happy (D55).  When he first came to me, he was not happy.  He was scared and would not come out his crate.  Today, I can open his crate he comes out on his own.  He runs through the back yard as if it is a race track.  He runs in circles on my deck when he ready to go in.  He loves to be held.  The only time he barks is when he uses his wee wee pad in as much to tell me I did not get him out in time and he wants clean crate.  He is mostly house broken.  He walks on lease slowly and we are still working on the walking.   He has no top teeth but eats very well.   Hard food needs to soak in water.  He is so loving, cute and a great pet.  He needs a home that is calm and takes time to socialize him.  Remember a lot of noises and new stuff may scare him so you have take it slowly with him.

The second picture is Charlie Brown (D17).  When he first came to me, he would not walk.  Today, he runs in the yard with a wagging tail.  We went for a walk and does fine in a walk however he walks in back of me.  He gets scared easily.  His balance is off so sometimes he falls, but his balance has been improving as time goes on.  He able to go up and down stairs now.  I am working with him on his socialization and walking.  He is the cutest little guy.  His new home would have to be calm and a watchful eye because of his balance.

  Nina and Finnigan (Fin)

Here are a few pictures of the chihuahuas I have. I named the girl Nina and the boy Finnigan (Fin) They are still pretty shy Fin seems to be making more progress then Nina but they both still need tons of love. Both of them are really playful they love romping outside with my dogs. They've never had any issues with any of my 3 dogs. They love all of them even though they are ALOT bigger, it seems like they didnt even notice. There were no problems with my cats either they just got backed up a little when my cats hissed. Who ever adopts them will have to be very patient and gentle with them. So a house without younger kids but with other dogs would be good. I hope these pics are good enough I love the one of Finnigan I think he was trying to smile for the camera lol its cute.

Sierra Simpson

HELLO FRIENDS,

WOULD LIKE TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON MY SWEET LITTLE BROWN SHORT HAIRED CHIHUAHUA RESCUE NAMED SIERRA.  I RESCUED HER ON AUGUST 18.2009, BROUGHT HER HOME, PUT HER DOWN ON THE GRASS IN THE BACK YARD.  WATCHING WAS HEART BREAKING AT FIRST THEN JOYFUL.  .IT WAS LIKE WATCHING THE MAN WALKING ON THE MOON.  SHE WAS NOT SURE OF THIS GREEN STUFF AND WALKED VERY CAREFULLY.   WITHIN 10 MINUTES SHE WAS LIKE A GAZELLE RUNNING, JUMPING AND ROLLING IN IT.

I THEN LET HER TWO SISTERS - A LONG HAIRED CHIHUAHUA AND A POODLE OUT TO MEET Her.  SHE WELCOMED THEM AND THEY HER.  WE WENT INSIDE, HAD DINNER, .LAID ON MY BED AND WATCHED TV.

SHE WAS VERY FEARFUL OF BEING PETTED OR TOUCHED.  AFTER A MONTH I AM ABLE TO PET HER AS SHE LAYS NEXT TO ME.  BUT UNABLE TO PICK  HER UP OR HOLD HER CLOSE OR TOO HUG AND KISS HER LIKE MY OTHER DOGS.  THIS WILL TAKE TIME I KNOW, AND THE PAY OFF WILL BE GREAT TO ME.

THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO ADD THIS PRECIOUS DARLING TO MY FURRY FAMILY.   ---CAROL SIMPSON, 9/30/09
