Why:
An opportunity to discuss the
organization’s plans to help the animals in 2004!
Have
a little extra time on your hands and want to help out somewhere?
Or maybe you made a resolution that this would be the year you would give
more of yourself?
The
Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter will be holding a Volunteer Engagement
Meeting on Saturday, January 24, 2004 from noon until 3:00 PM at the Dearborn
Hills Golf Course Clubhouse, 1300 South Telegraph Road, in Dearborn.
During this informational meeting, the Friends Board of Directors will be
discussing the various events and activities that are planned to help the
animals in 2004, and Project Leaders will be available to answer questions about
volunteering for a particular offsite event.
Maybe
you can picture yourself walking dogs at the shelter, cuddling cats and kittens,
matching shelter animals with prospective adopters, answering the telephones, or
fostering an orphaned pet in your own home – these are just a few of the many
things that the Friends do each and every day.
What about something as simple as filing forms or returning phone calls?
Or maybe you’re reading this and thinking, “I could write a press
release for the newspapers,” or maybe you want to snap some digital photos at
an event? Even with over 500
registered Friends volunteers serving the cats and dogs, there is always a
hearty welcome available for more energetic people to help out in a variety of
ways - the Friends invite everyone from teenagers to golden-age adults to join
their ranks!
Becoming
a volunteer with the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter is easy: sign-up
information will be available at the Engagement Meeting, you can download an
application at the Friends’ Website, www.dearborn-animals.com, or you can
contact the shelter at (313) 943-2697. Once
the application is approved, all volunteers are required to attend orientation
and training classes before they can assist at the shelter and offsite events.
Even
if you have just one hour each week to give, one lunch period, it makes a huge
difference in the lives of the animals. And
most Friends volunteers will assure you that the affectionate licks and purrs
they receive from the animals is more than enough payment for the giving of
their time.
