Your Guide to the Dearborn Animal Shelter
WELCOME to the Dearborn Animal
Shelter and thank you for coming. We
have many wonderful animals waiting for the right home.
We value the safety of our animals and your safety.
If this is your first visit, please read the following and observe a few
simple rules.
About the Shelter:
·
A service provided by the City of
Dearborn under the control of the Police Department.
·
Operated by
Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter, a not-for-profit volunteer group.
All contributions are tax deductible and very gratefully accepted. Donation
and Volunteer forms are available in the lobby.
About your visit in the Shelter:
·
You MUST sign-in at the lobby desk
before entering
·
This is a difficult environment for
most animals. Please:
·
NEVER allow children to put their
hands inside the cages .
·
Do not in any way, tease the
animals.
·
Do Not open any cage doors without
a staff member or volunteer to assist you.
About the Animals:
·
The staff and volunteers are here
to assist you, please ask if someone doesn’t offer
·
There are three (3) animal areas:
1.
The Dog Kennel area is through the lobby door.
2.
The Cat Room is straight through the dog kennel area, then right down a
short hallway, then the door on your left (look for signs marking the way).
3.
The Puppy Room is straight through the kennel area, then right down a
short hallway, then the door on your right (look for signs marking the way).
If
you are interested in adopting a new pet:
·
If you see an animal that you are
interested in:
·
Notify a staff member or volunteer
who can assist you in spending time with the pet and answer any questions you
may have about the pet or the adoption process.
·
An adoption counselor will
interview you to assure a quality adoption for you and the pet.
·
Our animals are medically tested
and vaccinated. The State of Michigan requires sterilization of Shelter animals.
Our adoption fee schedule and comparative pricing is on the reverse side
of this page.
·
If you do not find the right animal
for you today, please fill out a WISH LIST form available in the lobby.
Someone will contact you when a pet matching your interests is available.
Feel free to also visit us again.
If
you are looking for a lost pet:
·
If you find your pet in the
Shelter, please notify a staff member or volunteer to assist you.
·
If you do not find your pet in the
Shelter:
·
Please complete a LOST REPORT form
available in the lobby and hand it to a Staff member. Someone
will contact you if a pet matching your description comes into the Shelter.
·
Ask a Staff member for our
directions on what to do if you lose your pet and follow the steps.
·
Since descriptions can be
subjective, please continue to visit the Shelter on a regular basis until your
pet is recovered.
·
If you recover your pet, please
notify the Shelter so we can remove you from the lost report.
So we can continue to improve our services to you
and the animals, we would appreciate your completing our short Evaluation form (also
available in the lobby).
