Meet the Friends Management Team
Heather Mehi, Shelter Manager, started her animal career working as a grooming and veterinary assistant with an area Veterinary clinic. After a few months, realizing that animals were her passion she took a job with Huron Valley Humane Society, then Michigan Humane Society. Heather came with Elaine to Dearborn Animal Shelter in July 1996 and has been integral to the organization's growth and success. Heather shares her home with her partner, Anna, her dogs, cats and a parrot.
Kelle Sisung, Development Director, began her career with the shelter as
a volunteer in 2001. Within a few months we discovered her talent for
organization and communications, along with her backround in publishing, and
recruited her to become our Director of Volunteers(a volunteer position). We
were so impressed with the progress and work she did with the volunteers, that
when the Friends decided it was time to hire a Development Director, Kelle was
our first choice. The Devlopment Director basically is responsible for
overseeing the annual fund, which includes events, grants, and appeals.
Fortunately for the Friends and the animals, Kelle accepted the position in June
2005. Since the moment she began her new position, it has been full steam ahead,
since our organization continues to grow and requires more and more resources.
Sue Clifton, Community Outreach Coordinator,
began working for Friends
For the Dearborn Animal Shelter in August 2009 as temporary kennel assistant to
help care for our beloved Chihuahuas. She soon became a permanent kennel
assistant before accepting the position of Community Outreach Director in
January 2010.
Sue graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor of music, majoring in music therapy. Though most of her experience is in the (human) healthcare field, she has previously worked at another shelter, worked with various animal rescues, and animal-related businesses, including her family's pet-sitting service.
She lives with her 9 year-old basset mix, Daisy Mae, and her former DAS foster, a short haired black cat named Topper.
Sue is looking forward to working with volunteers and staff in her new position and helping DAS grow in a positive way. Questions, concerns, compliments and ideas are all welcome! Please contact her at dasclifton@aol.com.
