Complete the requested information, sign it, and bring it or mail it to the
shelter for your orientation
session.
Thank you for your interest in the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter. We ask all new volunteers to go through a volunteer orientation. Orientation sessions are not offered on a drop-in basis; you must contact the shelter to sign up for an orientation date. Please review the following information, schedule your Orientation Session, and complete the Volunteer Application and bring it with you to your orientation session.
Adult Orientation Sessions (16 years of age and older)
The orientation session includes the following:
- An overview of the Friends organization and the shelter.
- Information packets that describe the various events and projects that benefit the animals, as well as contact information for the Project Leaders.
- A description of volunteer opportunities in the shelter and an In-Shelter Volunteer Handbook.
Youth Sessions
(12 - 15 years old)
Because student volunteers work directly with shelter animals, orientations focus on safety issues and shelter rules. Students are also given an information packet to take home, which includes a student volunteer Handbook.

All Volunteer Orientation Sessions are given on the first Saturday of every month.
Adult sessions are 11:30am-1pm.
Youth sessions are 1:30pm-3pm.

The Shelter, address is 2661 Greenfield in Dearborn.- General tours will be given at this time. It will consist of the facility kennels, puppy and cat rooms, the garage area and the cat community trailers. Please dress to work with the animals - long pants and tennis shoes.
