THIS SUNDAY - BRING FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR THE FUN!

Plus Kitty Klassic and new Student Volunteer Program

Hey folks.  Summer is slipping away, but the weather is to be gorgeous on Sunday, July 27.  Thought you might want to enjoy our Bow Wow Burger Bash this Sunday, 2pm - 7pm, at Dearborn Tavern (Pelham and Outer Drive).  Great food at a great price - $10 for yummy burgers (veggie burgers also available), fries, coleslaw, and beverage (pop, tea, coffee) with live entertainment (7 different bands and dance acts performing on stage).  Cash bar available.  Bring a friend, come anytime, stay as long as you like, eat inside or outside under the tent.

Tickets are available at the shelter until 4pm on Saturday or at the door on Sunday and it all goes to benefit the animals (Steve and Cindy Griffith, the owners, generously donate everything).  More information ...

 Adorable Adoptables

The Dearborn Animal Shelter is filled to capacity with beautiful kitties.  We are working hard to find each and every adoptable kitten or cat a wonderful home.  To encourage adoptions and to make it a little easier on the wallet, as of July 17 we are offering a Kitty Klassic package - a 50% reduction in our kitten adoption fees.  The adoption package has not changed and is more than ever, a great value.  The package includes:

Initial Vaccinations- CVR-CP

Rabies (4 mos and older)

Parasite Check/Worming

Feline Leukemia Test (9 weeks and older)

Spaying or Neutering

Microchip ID

Travel Box/Kitty Cushion

Kitty Care and Training DVD

This is a value of over $250.00

Our adoption fee:   Kittens under 4 months - $45.00, Cats/Kittens over 4 months - $40.00

To visit with any of our adorable adoptables, visit the shelter, view them online, or attend our huge offsite adoption event on Saturday, August 16.  On August 16 we'll be showcasing kittens at the Training Center and at most area pet food stores.  Check the web site for locations and times.   The three kittens featured and many more are all available for adoption.

  Bart, Bradley, and Anthony
Are they not adorable?  Let us introduce you to:
Bart -11 weeks old and  loves to be picked up and cuddled
Bradley - 7 weeks old with a white star on his chest - he  plays fetch and returns the ball!!
Anthony - 8 weeks old and a beautiful soft cream and buff mackerel tabby

  Kelsey
Kelsey is very sweet, affectionate, and has lots of energy! Everyone seems to have a different opinion of what mix Kelsey really is. Terrier / Dachsund / Beagle / Jack Russell / Min Pin mix?  Guess you need to come and see for yourself. Whatever her heritage -- she's a sweetie. Kelsey is just 1 year old and will sit on command
.

If you would like to foster, please phone (313-942-2697) or email Heather at the shelter.  If you qualify, we'll train you and provide supplies.

Calling all Student Volunteers

We are fortunate to have many student volunteers (under age 16) and are proud to introduce a new program to recognize their contributions - our Student Star Volunteer of the Month Program.  The Student Star who shines the brightest each month will have their picture and an interview posted in the front lobby at the shelter and on the Friends website and also receive a special badge to wear for the month.

In addition to assisting at the shelter and with events, an example of a student activity is the shelter beautification day on July 26.  Student volunteers will be cleaning up the outside of the shelter and planting flats of flowers donated by Westborn Flower Market.  View the great before and after photos along with the amazing team of student volunteers!!   Also, mark your calendar and come to their bake sale on August 16, 11am - 3pm, at both the Shelter and the Training Center.  Any student wishing to help should contact Nick, at the shelter, 313-943-2697.
