Rain & 240 Friends Need You to Stamp Their Passport to Adoption

Our summer appeal follows the journey of 2-year-old Rain from intake at our shelter to his patient wait for a forever home. To visit with Rain and our Executive Director, Elaine, click here(Can't view the video?  Get Microsoft Windows Media Player.)

Since Rain joined our family, the number of shelter cats has exploded! Over 200 cats are in the same “waiting mode” as he is. Your making a donation means one more stamp on their passport to adoption.

Donations to date: $6,000 (only 30% of our goal)

Still time to donate: Our summer travelers need you to respond and donate online by September 15!

Goal: $20,000 (or $83.30 per kitty)

Please donate what you can to help:

$35 covers the cost of Rain’s wellness exam

$50 makes sure Rain is microchipped so his family will never lose him again

$100 means that Rain has tasty cat chow or a dog has a full tummy while at the shelter

$250 pays for the cost of one community cat trailer for one month; each of the 4 Triple Cs houses up to 15 cats in a cage-free environment
$500 is the total amount it takes to prepare Rain for adoption and ensure his safety and health while he’s in our care.

Kitty Klassic Kruise: Saturday, August 16

Cruise on in to the Kitty Klassic on Saturday, August 16. The Kitty Klassic Kruise is a unique attempt to solve a seasonal problem: the Dearborn Animal Shelter is bursting at the seams with over 240 cats and kittens. According to Elaine Greene, executive director of the Friends, “We decided if people can’t make it to the shelter, we would bring the cats to them.”

Kittens will be available for adoption at seven participating locations from 11:00 until 3:00.  Locations are in Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Allen Park, and Westland.  Visit the one closest to you (or them all) - click here for a complete list of locations and maps.

  • PetSmart, 5650 Mercury Drive in Dearborn

  • Pet Needs Etc., 5664 N. Telegraph Rd. in Dearborn Heights

  • Friends Training Center, located next to Pet Supplies Plus at 2621 S. Telegraph Rd. in Dearborn

  • SuperPetz, 34420 Ford Rd. in Westland

  • Petco, 23155 Outer Drive in Allen Park

  • Ford Lanes, 23100 Van Born in Dearborn Heights. The popular bowling alley is hosting all-day activities to celebrate their 50th anniversary, including a parking lot bowling fund-raiser to benefit the Dearborn Animal Shelter

  • Dearborn Animal Shelter Open House, 2661 Greenfield Rd., featuring a student volunteer bake sale - print this flier and receive a buy one, get one free baked goodie.

Each of the participating pet stores is donating a Kitty Klassic Kruise gift basket filled with feline supplies. Each potential adopter who fills out an adoption application will be eligible to win.

Kitty Klassic Adoption Program - 50% Reduction in Adoption Fees

All of our over 240 kitties deserve wonderful homes, so we are temporarily reducing the price of adoptions: $45 for kittens under four months and $40 for kitties four months and older. The adoption package includes initial vaccinations, feline leukemia testing, worming, spaying or neutering, microchip ID, transport box, kitty cushion, and a training and card DVD. This is an estimated value of over $250.

The reduced adoption fee is in effect now at the Dearborn Animal Shelter and will remain in place until the shelter cat population is reasonably reduced. Please view all of the adorable felines waiting for homes.

Event date: Saturday, August 9

Dollars raised: Over $12,000 ($3,500 in pledges)

Number of bowlers: A full house of 190 bowlers!

It was a packed house at Country Lanes in Farmington Hills for the third annual Bowl 4 Animal Rescue. Once again, bowling champs Michelle Mullen and Aleta Sills threw a terrific party to benefit both the Friends and Michigan Animal Adoption Network. Both ladies work tirelessly to secure sponsors, wrangle the media, and ensure that their guests have a terrific time. They raise both funds and awareness for homeless animals: a cause that is near and dear to them. Check out all the photos and results at: http://www.YourBowlingCoach.com/incommunity.htm
