"I  Care Campaign"

The presidential candidates are on the campaign trail for your vote. The Friends, however, know that we are all united on a single issue: caring for homeless animals. We invite you to join our September “I Care Campaign!”

  • I Care by Donating

  • I Care by Volunteering

  • I Care by forwarding this message so that we grow our Family of Friends Campaigners

Caring Friends: Monthly Giving Made Easy

Many of our wonderful supporters (like Angela Nolte and Linda Nelson) have stamped Rain’s summertime passport to adoption AND become monthly givers --- known as Caring Friends. Rain and his feline friends know that they can count on Angela and Linda for help, and Angela and Linda know that they are making a difference each and every month.

As monthly givers Angela and Linda received a special Passport to Savings. They can redeem their Caring Friend Coupon for great Friends merchandise like a back-to-school Messenger Bag.

The amount of your monthly gift will correspond

to the amount of your Caring Friend Coupon.

$35 covers the cost of Rain’s wellness exam AND you receive a 35% coupon

$50 makes sure Rain is microchipped so his family will never lose him again AND you receive a 50% coupon

$100 means that Rain has tasty cat chow or a dog has a full tummy while at the shelter AND you receive a free Friends gift of your choosing with a value up to $50

$250 pays for the cost of one community cat trailer for one month; each of the 4 Triple Cs housing up to 15 cats in a cage-free environment

Summertime Donations to date: nearly $10,000

Still time to donate: Our summer travelers need you to respond and donate online by September 15!

Goal: $20,000 [or $83.30 per kitty]

Many thanks: To all of our summertime supporters

Rain and his over 200 friends know you care!

Calling all Caring Kids!

September means back to school---back to classes, homework, and joining clubs and sports teams. It also means community service. Volunteering at the Dearborn Animal Shelter can satisfy school community service obligations AND it’s tons of fun.

How old do I have to be? Students must be at least 12 to volunteer

What do I do as a volunteer? Cuddle kitties, walk dogs, teach doggie manners, help with adoptions, keep the shelter spic and span, participate in special student projects like bake sales!

How do I start? Call the shelter to sign up for an orientation, a 1.5 hour Saturday training session. Shelter number: (313) 943-2697.

What is a Student Star? We recognize our exceptional student volunteers by acknowledging a “shining star” each month. The student star is featured in our shelter lobby and on our Web site for all to see.

Event Update: Kitty Klassic Kruise

Volunteer Jo Navarre visits with
potential kitty parents at Petco.

Event date: Saturday, August 16

Kitties Adopted: A whopping 30!

The Kitty Klassic was a cat-astic success with 16 cats going home and 14 applications processed. We thank all of our visitors, adopters, volunteers, and Kitty Klassic hosts: PetSmart, Pet Needs Etc., Pet Supplies Plus, SuperPetz, Petco, and Ford Lanes.

Unfortunately, as cats are adopted, more cats enter our doors each day. Stay tuned for details on our September Kitty Klassic Kruise 2, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 20.

Kitty Klassic Adoption Reduction Continues

We are continuing to temporarily reduce the price of adoptions: $45 for kittens under four months and $40 for kitties four months and older. The adoption package includes initial vaccinations, feline leukemia testing, worming, spaying or neutering, microchip ID, transport box, kitty cushion, and a training and card DVD. This is an estimated value of over $250.

The reduced adoption fee is in effect now at the Dearborn Animal Shelter and will remain in place until the shelter cat population is reasonably reduced. Please visit the Friends’ Web site at www.dearborn-animals.com to view all of the adorable felines waiting for homes.
