Tyler Lovelace

On October 11, 2006,  Sharon Lovelace wrote, "I am sending some pictures of Tyler, formerly "Kevin" in his new home, or shall I say, palace since he is quite the king of the domain.  I'm sure everyone there has seen so much sadness I thought you might like a happy ending."  Sharon tells us, "He loves to go outside on his tie and then come in and sit in the window.  He prefers dry food over canned, surprisingly.  Tyler does not like to be combed but we're working on that one and he chirps when he wants something.  He's already had his first visit to the vet so everything is going well for us."  " I want to thank the staff for taking care of him and all the animals that are in your shelter.  I picked him up on September 2nd and I already couldn't imagine coming through the front door at night and not having him waiting there.  Thanks again."

Sadie Mabrey

One of the fortunate ones, Sadie who was known as Veronia at the shelter, was adopted by Kenneth and Lois Mabrey on May 10, 2006.  Sadie now lives and is loved by the Mabreys in Allen Park.

Brandy Murphy

Brandy, a 3 year old Pit Bull, found a new home with Valerie Murphy and her family in Dearborn Heights this year.  The Murphy household also includes; another dog Ginger and 6 cats (Violet, Mocha, Mele, Hector, Oz and Juniper), most of whom where adopted at the Dearborn Animal Shelter within the years of 2003 and 2006.  Valerie writes," Brandy loves to go for walks, play ball with Ginger and get a facial from Violet."  Valerie encourages others to consider adopting breeds such as Pit Bulls: " I just want to say that Brandy is a "Pit Bull" doing wonderfully in a home with 7 other animals - if you have the time to spend supervising and introducing this breed to your household, they are truly a joy to own!  The loyalty of a "bully" breed is unmatched.  We love Brandy more than words can express.  She seems to feel the same."

Sandi Brazier

On Halloween Linda Ward-Brazier brought home to Dearborn a one year old black and white kitty known as Carmel at the shelter.  Linda writes that Carmel's new name is Sandi.  She also writes that Sandi's favorite activity is chasing Patrick another family cat around the house.  "She's Awesome.  Thank-you."

Lucy Beaven

Lucy's name was Suzie at the Dearborn Animal Shelter until on November 5, 2006 when Nick Beaven and his family adopted her and changed her name to Lucy.  Lucy now lives in Dearborn Heights and shares her new home with 2 other cats.  Nick writes that Lucy's favorite thing to do is: "sleep all day on the top of her perch and play with our other cats Tippy and Little Guy."  Nick says: "She [Lucy] is what we dreamed of it is totally a momma's kitty."

Maxwell Loftus

Katie Loftus adopted Maxwell on January 20, 2006 and took him home to begin his new life in Dearborn.  Katie tells us that Maxwell's favorite activity is "chasing squirrels and chewing on his toys."  She says, "he's such a sweet little boy and I love how excited he gets to see me everyday!  He's my little Prince Charming!"

Nikko-Ai Barron

Three years ago this December, Jennifer Barron  happened to fall in love with a kitty at PetSmart named Rosana [Jennifer later changed her name to Nikko-Ai (Cute Kitty)].  Printed here is an email from Jennifer on November 2, 2006.

"I just wanted to write in and encourage everyone to bring one of the longtime shelter residents into their homes!  My little Nikko was in the shelter and at the Dearborn PetSmart for a year before I found her.  When I saw her it was love at first sight.  {I had only come in the store to buy cat food!)  She has the most incredible personality.  (Yes, as in just like a person!) My little stocky half-Burmese tortoise shell colored character holds conversations (in a voice that sounds like she has had too many Marlboros), likes to ride on shoulders (she especially loves men), and greets me at the door every evening."

"When I first brought her home, I tried to keep her in her own little special place, with what I thought were ingenious barriers.  I then left to go pick up extra kitty supplies.  When I returned, she had figured out a way through the barrier and was flopped right in the middle of the living room floor...much to my other two cats' surprise and chagrin.  It was as if she was saying, "Hey! I'm here! What's goin' on!"  Even after three years in my home, she still plays like a kitten, stalking her sister and brother's twitching cat tails and climbing up the walls to get "her" laser pointer.  Oh!  She also sleeps on her back...just like in the picture. She brings me, and everyone who visits me, so much joy."

"I cannot thank the Dearborn Animal Shelter enough for keeping my precious Nikko alive even after a year, and for keeping her in the public eye until someone could come around and fall in love with her.  {Thank you, Thank you!)"

"Please, please, please...consider what joy these wonderful furry veterans can bring to your life!  Their shelf life doesn't expire!"
