  Buddy Shivak

First day at new home.  Chilling out.  Boy, this sure beats the shelter.  They were nice, but it's so quiet here.

A smile for my old friends.

Email from March 11, 2007

My name is Don Shivak and I adopted Buddy on 3/10/07.  We have only had him two days but he is the greatest dog in the world.  Just wanted to let you know he is adjusting just fine and is a really good boy.  He has not barked one time yet.  I think it will probably shock me the first time he does.  We have been on three walks already and he really enjoyed the car ride when I brought him home.  Thanks for taking care of him until I was lucky enough to find and adopt him.

Checking out the new neighborhood.

Wonder who that is?

Do you have to keep taking those pictures?

 Lucy Warner

This beauty's name was Sandra when she was a 3 year old at the shelter.  That is until April of 2003 when Juli, Nick and Allison brought her home with them to Southgate and changed her name to Lucy.  Juli writes in December of 2006:

Since we adopted Lucy 3.5 years ago, her fave activities have been watching squirrels out the window and curling up for a nap in my lap (she's a very mellow, laid back girl !)  Lucy is a great addition to our family; she's happiest when curled up next to someone, hanging out and watching TV.  We are hoping to give another pet a "forever home" by adopting from the Dearborn shelter again in 2007.

 Barney Raleigh

Lyndsae Raleigh adopted Avis, now Barney, when he was just a kitten of 3 months old.  Barney's happy new life and family is in Okemos.  Lyndsae says: "Barney loves lots of toys, including his catnip mouse, fabric softener sheets and his own tail."

Lyndsae's email of March 30, 3007:

Barney is a great cat!  I know the staff and volunteers at the shelter must have been very good to him, because he is so affectionate and well socialized.  He loves to meet new people, and everyone is just crazy about his mitten paws.  He's a great pet for me and friend for my other cat, Fred.  We're really lucky to have him.

for a photo of George

Nina Alexander-Zywiol and her family adopted 8-year old Shadow in February of 2007 and they changed his name to George.  They brought George home to Dearborn to begin a new life together.

Nina describes George: "this cat has been such a joy.  He blends in great with our dog and cat.  He has been around a few friends who has dogs and has been receptive to others as well.  You can tell he loves people and other animals."

Ernie and Eddie Bozzer

In a letter to the shelter dated March 7, 2007, Susan Bozzer writes:

To Whom It May Concern:

In September of 2006, my cat passed away suddenly at the Veterinarians office.  Needless to say, I was heartbroken and still miss him to this day!

In October of 2006, I went to your shelter to look for another cat.  At first I was looking for one to replace my old cat.  My Vet pointed out to me what I was doing and I decided to get one that looked totally different.  I found Ernie (Noche) and I couldn't wait until I picked him up. Then, decided to get another one so that they could play together and I

found Eddie (JuJuB), who was in Foster Care. I felt like a kid getting some new toys!

I'm writing today to thank you and tell you how much I love these two little guys.  I was worried at first.  Eddie didn't like Ernie and kept hissing and pawing at him.  I slept on the floor with them both for the first two nights to keep them apart.  Then, they just became friends!

They are inseparable now.  They love to run after each other and play.  They chase their furry mice and chew on old socks that I have given then to play with.  They snuggle together and clean each other up all the time.  They are both so precious!

They have not replaced my old cat, but they have sure found a special place in my heart!   They are both growing up to be such handsome little guys!  Both my husband and I love to play with them.  They are just like our kids!

Thank you to all the people who care for these animals at th shelter and in their homes.

Your doing a great job!

Sincerely,

Susan Bozzer

Rags Natzmer

On January 19, 2007, Rags went to live with Nanette Natzmer and Cinder in Ypsilanti.  Rags was just 8 months old.  Nanette writes that Rags' favorite activity is sitting in the bedroom window watching the birds at the bird feeder.  From that window, he also watches Nanette leave for work.  His favorite toy is a pompom ball that he bats around.  Nanette says: "He is adjusting nicely with my other cat, (Cinder).  She likes to be in the same room as him.  He [Rags] even has a pet fish!".
