2007 Update:

Lori CiCirelli adopted this heartbreaker on April 26 of 2005.  She recently sent us these updated photos of Joe.  She says he still: "loves to play ball, chew bones and swim."

Paul and Carol sent in these adorable photos of Ivory along with a lovely letter dated June 4, 2007:

Dear Friends of the Dearborn Animal Shelter,

Last January, I was interested in adopting a "special friend" when I was listening to Smooth Jazz and heard about your shelter by chance.  After getting on the internet, we decided to make the trip to Dearborn and met Ivory.

She had us at "hello" and with the help of your wonderful staff, especially Rebecca, we made the decision to adopt her.  We thought you would like to know that she has flourished and has become a perfect addition to our family.

Ivory is still a bit timid, but she has completed a beginners training class and has improved tremendously.  She is the most loving dog my husband and I have ever owned and she makes us laugh every day.  We are sending a couple of pictures so you can see how happy she is in her new home.

...Thank you for your work with all the animals that pass through your shelter.

We are so glad we found you.

 Misha Berns

this space is waiting for a photo of Misha

Wendy Berns adopted Meredith, a 6 month old puppy, on March 22, 2007.  She brought her home to Clinton, Michigan; along with a new home she gave her a new name, Misha.

Cheyenne formerly Biso

There was a playful kitten named Biso at the shelter, until a friendly couple from New Boston, took her into their lives in November of 2006 and named her Cheyenne.  Bill and Cherie submitted a "Happy Tail" about Cheyenne.  They report, Cheyenne's favorite activity is playing "hide & seek behind the shower curtain".

They also write:

Cheyenne is a lap cat, sleeps with us at night.  [Cheyenne is] Very curious.  She hides behind the shower curtain, in the bathtub, or behind plants and jumps out.  Then we hide and she peeks around corners looking for us.  That peach color pompom on the end of her tail is always showing from somewhere.  She's a gentle, loving kitten, gets along with people and animals, even the grandkids.  She's a real pleasure and a lot of fun.  She's over 10lbs, but still pretty small, just right for picking up.  She's always ready for a little cuddle, then she's off and playing again.  She's a little doll.  She would really like to "play" with the parakeet... She is strictly in-doors, but finds plenty to do around the house.  She loves to unroll toilet paper  She usually takes the roll in the bathtub where we won't notice it right away.  Her toy basket is usually empty, but there's plenty in the bathtub.  She doesn't like to be wet, but is fascinated with water, she will bat at it coming out of the faucet or even in the tub.  The minute the water goes off in the shower, she walks in to see what's going on.  She has to see what's in every drawer, cupboard and closet.

She's an all around sweetheart and we're very thankful to have her.

...Keep up the great work.

Calvin formerly Schwepp

In a letter to the shelter postmarked July 22, 2005, Rosie writes:

Dear Animal Friends,

Schwepp, now known as Calvin, is one great dog.  He is a whole lot of puppy; I love him dearly.  He has been to [Wisconsin] to visit my mom who had a stroke.  He traveled well and gets along super with Miss Hobbes, the cat.

He has been seen by my vet, who also thinks he's great- does not have worms and is on heartworm [preventative].  All is well - he even likes me and most times listens.

Thanks much!

Diesel formerly Theodore

In a greeting card  sent to the shelter, Stoney writes about Diesel:

Hi,

Just a note to let you know that Diesel (formerly Theodore) is doing great!  Everybody just loves him.  We can't believe that this loveable guy was found wandering the streets!  When we first brought him home he was a little sick - a small complication from his surgery, giardia/worms and an upper respiratory infection.  We took him back to the vet today and are happy to report that he is A-okay.  He's doing great w/training - already knows sit and stay, is practically housebroken, and absolutely loves his crate (sometimes he'll go and take a nap inside it during the middle of the day!).

Thank you for helping us find the perfect dog - he's a wonderful addition to our family...

Thank you.

Erin Crooks

Kendall (now Erin), a just barely one year old puppy, was very sick at the shelter, but that didn't keep Vicki and Rick Crooks of Riverview from falling in love with her and adopting her on March 17, 2007. They write:

When we 1st saw Erin she was timid, shy and very sick.  Since we adopted her on St. Patrick's Day we named her Erin.  Each week since we brought her home she's more and more comfortable with her new home.  Erin wasn't familiar with mirrors, windows, stairs or cars at first.  She doesn't even bark much and is now house-trained.

Erin is most happy when she's with children, other animals and loves to be loved and have someone to play with her outside.  She will take loving from anyone who will give it and 24/7 would be her greatest pleasure.  She remembers everyone she meets and happily greets them when she sees them again.  As soon as Erin is 100% well, she will attend a dog school and other fun classes she's sure to enjoy.

Black Maxie Mitten Kitten Koppula

Sherri Koppula of Southgate adopted Maxie from the shelter when she was around 2 years old on April 14, 2007. Sherri gave Maxie's a new name that describes her perfectly ---Black Maxie Mitten Kitten.  Sherri tells us in the 'Happy Tail' that Black Maxie Mitten Kitten enjoys attacking string or dental floss.

Sherri also writes:

Black Maxie Mitten Kitten is a wonderful cat, we love her very much, I am very happy I found her and adopted her, Thanks.

She is crazy. [S]he comes in the bathroom when we are flossing and wants to play with the floss.  She loves to chase string of any kind.  She is unbelievably nosey, she can't stand any door/closet/cupboard shut.  She will pull it open for no other reason than to be nosey and crawl around inside.  Mitten is the most vocal cat I have ever had; she talks all the time, but does not respond to any name or "kitty kitty".  My husband laughs, she likes to flop on the floor with a THUD.  He can't figure out why she does that.  If we are reading the newspaper she climbs on our laps and lays on the paper.  One thing I found amusing is she likes to jump in and out of the tub and jumps on the bathroom sink and sleeps in the basin.

Lucy Beaven update 2007

see Lucy Beaven for Lucy's original posting.

A correction to the original posting: The Beavens adopted Lucy on November 12, 2005.

Debbie says, "Lucy loves to chase the pesky flies that decide to take a tour through the house.  She also loves to sit in her perch up by the window and watch not only the world go by but the birds too!"

Micky Young

This space is reserved for a photo of Micky

Amy Young of Franklin submitted a 'Happy Tail' about the kitty she and her family adopted.  She tells us that Micky, formerly Mitch, "...lays on our son's 'mountain goat rug' all day."  "[He] has adjusted to our home very quickly."  "He never really hid from us."  "He puts up with our yorkie-bichon mix dog and they are now becoming buddies."  "He loves to lie on our bed or with anyone whenever someone is sitting down."  "He talks to us when he needs some attention, and we all love him."  "The boys carry him around and cover him with blankets and he seems to like it."
