 Lucy LaReau

A lucky fluffy, black kitten named Turner was adopted by Marcella LaReau of Livonia in November of 2007.  Marcella brought her home and changed her name to Lucy.  Marcella tells us "... [Lucy] loves to play "chase me" with our[but] 5 year old tomcat Rudy, whom we also adopted [but] from Michigan Humane Society, 4 years ago."

We really love Lucy.  She just melts in your arms and rubs her little face against yours.  She's very smart - has learned she's not allowed on the porch or outside.  She and Rudy play with a toy mouse on a wire and a ball.  She has a good appetite and uses the litter box faithfully.  She's brought a lot of happiness to our home.

 Buddy Mendoza

A letter from The Mendoza family about Buddy:

On April 10, 2008  we ...[were]pleased to announce the latest arrival to our family, Buddy our dog.  He is a male, 2 year old boxer that came from the Dearborn Animal Shelter.  My husband and two children came to visit the shelter in search of a new pet for our home and absolutely fell head over heels in love with Buddy.  Amongst the barking and talking in the shelter, my husband phoned me and told me all about him.  Buddy truly was a sight.  Happy, excited and just full of enthusiasm, I too fell in love.  Our children, my husband and myself are absolutely thrilled to have Buddy in our home and our hearts.  He sleeps at the foot of our bed and has adjusted beautifully to his new environment.  He enjoys running freely in our backyard, playing with our children, but also enjoys the occasional treat for good listening.  But when it comes to bedtime, Buddy always comes looking for Mommy and Daddy.  Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks to everyone in the care-giving of Buddy.  He is picking up weight and is truly happy.  Thank you to everyone who has made this union a beautiful one.  Buddy is loved and cared for, nurtured and attended to.  He loves going for drives in the car, and taking us for walks too!!! Wow, is he strong.  Thank you to everyone and we'll see you all soon.

Sincerely,

The Mendoza Family

 Mannie Lemkie

Email letter from Robin Lemkie from April 16, 2008:

Mannie Lemkie

Mon and Dad: Russ and Robin Lemkie

Adopted in October of 2002

Mannie was four and half months old when we adopted him from the Dearborn Animal Shelter and he has grown into a big, fluffy, affectionate cat.  He has the sweetest nature we have ever seen in a cat and he spends his nights "sharing" my pillow, purring loudly.  Since he is a big cat, around 20 lbs, he doesn't leave much room on the pillow for my head, but I would not change this little habit of his for anything in the world.  Mannie loves to play with his stuffed snake and his mouse with wild looking fur that we call his Troll Mouse.  He likes to sneak up on them and kick them with his back foot and then chase them as if he doesn't know where they came from.  He also enjoys playing with his brother Shadow, a tabby we adopted seven months before Mannie.  Mannie is a very important member of our family and we consider ourselves fortunate to have him in our lives.

Sassy St. John [update]

When Beverly St. John received our email alerting her that the Happy Tail she submitted about her cat Peeps, whom is now called Sassy, would be posted soon, she wrote back immediately to submit a photo of Sassy.

Spooky Phillips

Muffin got a new family in February of 2008, when Diane Phillips adopted her from the shelter and took her to her new home in Southfield.  Muffin also got a new name, Spooky.  Diane reported to us that Spooky loves to play tennis ball and chase squirrels.  Diane wrote: "Spooky has 'come out of her shell' and enjoys visiting with new people.  We look forward to taking Spooky and our other dog (maybe a new puppy as well) up north this summer.  Spooky loves her 3/4 acre yard!"

Lance Littrell

Tonia Littrell of Lincoln Park needed someone to occupy her mind, then along came Lance.  Tonia adopted Lance from the shelter and took him home on December 14, 2007.  Tonia told us that he is "very playful, loveable, energetic - everyone is a toy" and that he "became a lap cat in 3 days time" and that he "loves to talk" and "loves to sit in the window to watch the birds".  In the Happy Tail Tonia wrote: "...Since my cat "George" died of cancer in November '07, Lance has made a perfect companion to keep my mind on Lance instead of the past.  Lance is a mommy's boy!"

Brandy Bilbrey [update]

After we posted Brandy's Happy Tail, Marilyn sent in a letter and another photo of Brandy.

Dear Friends...

Well, we have had Brandy for 1 year now on 6-2-08.  She is doing great, such a good cat.  Brandy has taken over the house, every room and window.  She is still mostly a one person cat (me), the only time she has anything to do with my husband is when I'm not at home.

I still can't believe she is 7 years old.  She still plays like a kitty.  She has made friends with the squirrels, that's her TV, watching out the window when I feed them.  My Brandy is also still an indoor cat.  She wants nothing to do with outside (thank God).

So here is a new picture of her.  Isn't she beautiful?  She gets her yearly shot Monday.  It will be the first time out of the house since last year for her shot.

  Anyway she sure is Loved.

Thank you,

Marilyn Bilbrey and Brandy

Kylee Baker

Early in 2008, around January and February, Yvonne Baker decided to adopt Shira from the shelter.  Yvonne changed Shira's name to Kylee when she took her to her home in Allen Park.  Yvonne reports that "Kylee loves going for walks and sleeping in the recliner in the living room".

Kylee enjoyed going to dog classes; she was a very quick student, learning all the commands on the first day.

Kylee is such a great addition to our family.  We are so lucky to have found her!  Thank you for taking care of Kylee before we got there.

 Sharpie Pfanenstiel/Case

Sharpie got a new home on May 28, 2008 when Loni Pfanenstiel and Michael Case adopted him and took him to their home in Dearborn.  They tell us that Sharpie's "...favorite toy for outside is a toy that squeaks-red bill w/feet & squeaker...inside-the molecule or kong."

We love Sharpie!  His favorite spot in the house is anywhere that we are sitting.  He makes sure that some part of his body is touching us.  We can be standing and he will lay himself on our feet.  He fill fall asleep anywhere and love hugs and to just be petted.  We are so happy to have such a loving dog.

Raina H.

Tory H. of Flat Rock submitted a Happy Tail about a dog named Beauty by the shelter that she adopted in May of 2008.  Tory since has changed Beauty's name to Raina.  Tory says Raina's favorites are "being a diva and entertaining her new playmate Jake and [she]  LOVES to bite the squeaker out of squeaky toys".  Tory adds, "After she got over her chewing-everything-in-sight period (including the bathroom linoleum), Raina is very happy.  She has her owners trained well, and pretty much gets what she wants.  She's a good dog."
