Logan Batchelor / Obradovich

We adopted Logan at the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter's Dearborn Inn "Tie and Tails" 2004 event and I thought I would report that he loves his new home, a large Victorian located on 8 acres (cats inside only)  with 5 other cats a black lab and a crazy 4 yr old golden that loves to chase all the cats around the house, all but Logan that is.

Aspen (golden) poises himself to chase Logan and Logan lies down in front of him and they end up licking each other!

Logan's eye is about the same but Dr Dan Lorimer of MVS is seeing Logan on Thurs.

Neena

Neena was adopted from the Shelter on July 15, 2004 where her name was Brooke.  She is about 2 years old and shares her new home with 4 people (Paula, Brian, Lisa, and Nick) and 4 other pets (2 fish - Rocky and Daisy; and 2 hamsters - Angel and Buddy).  All four of the people in Neena's new family wrote to say how much they love her.

From Lisa:  "Neena is nice, sweet, playful and loves hugs.  We run around outside together and play tug-of-war.  I like to take her for walks.  Her favorite thing is to pull on her ring rope with a ball attached."

From Nick:  "Neena has had lots of fun with our family.  She has swam in a lake, went camping, and really likes the car and baths.  She is very playful.  She plays with her ball, rope, and many other toys.  She is a great, great dog."

From Paula and Brian:  "A Happy Tail from the Mom and Dad"

Although our kids have written their own Happy Tails, we wanted to add our own little something.  When we finally agreed it was time for a pooch, we knew we would adopt.  We wanted a medium-sized dog, already housebroken, and good with kids.  So we went online checking humane societies, pounds, and shelters in the area.  We figured it would take a few weeks or more to find the dog we wanted.  Boy, were we wrong!  We visited just on other shelter and then saw Neena (Brooke, as you called her) on your website.

Mom came to check "Brooke" out and she was so cute and mild-mannered that my husband and children came back to meet her.  Neena was just as sweet with the kids, too.  That was it; we signed the papers and she was ours two days later.  We only changed name because Brooke is our niece's name, so we picked another.

For awhile, everyone would ask about our newest family member and we would say "we feel so blessed and lucky" with a such a wonder dog.  Every time we said this, we'd secretly hope it wasn't too good to be true.  But Neena is wonderful - she loves us, protects us, loves to play and be rubbed all over.  She was house-broken, only having a few accidents early on - probably nerves or we weren't reading her signals yet.  We've taught her a few new tricks like to "speak", and she learns fast.  She's silly though, because she only brings the ball back and drops it for you in the house.  In the yard, she'll just run around with it until you catch her or she gets exhausted!  And, she loves the car.

Neena comes when we call even is she's off chasing a rabbit or squirrel.  (In fact, that is the only time she takes off running from our side ... especially if we don't see the other animal first!)  I think she "died and went to heaven" when she found her new family.  Even though she is about 2 years old, she's still very puppy-like.  She not only buries her "special" bones in the yard but, if you give her a treat outside, she'll bury that too.  She even growls and barks at some treats before she eats them.  She doesn't like a bath, but will sit nice for one anyway, and she oh-h-h-h so loves to be brushed.

At bedtime Neena finds a spot in clear view of all our bedrooms.  One night our kids spent the night with friends.  Once we got ready for bed, she whimpered for 1/2 an hour, pacing from their rooms to ours letting us know they weren't in their beds.  We finally assured her to chill out.  When they showed up in the morning  ... happy dog.

Please don't bother printing this - what the kids wrote is wonderful.. We just had to take a moment to write because we are so happy with our girl, and we are grateful for all the work you do with abandoned pets.  We love Neena and she love us, too.  Thanks!

Anya Cox

Dearborn Animal Shelter,

We wanted to thank you for your help in bringing Anya (formerly Petunia: adopted 7/24/2004) into our lives.

We can't imagine life without our little "fur-ball of joy."  We think she's pretty happy with us too.

Thank you,
Stephanie Cox and family

Cherry Michowski

Cherry's name at the Shelter was Geraldine and she was adopted on 9/18/04.  She is currently 1 year old.

Cherry came into our lives on September 18, 2004 and quickly worked her way into our hearts.  In looking at her today, it is hard to believe she was brought in to the Dearborn Sheltr as a stray.  She is such a good-natured and loving dog.  Each day Cherry greets each of us with love shining from her beautiful brown eyes and a way of the tail.  She enjoys keeping her backyard squirrel-free and radiates delight when Katie and Timmy chase her around the yard, trying to get the ball or other toy away from her.  In the house, Cherry likes tug-of-war and relaxing with some rawhide bones.  She is always ready to go when it is time for a walk.  Her favorite times of day are walking the children to school in the morning or walking them home in the afternoon.  Cherry walks a bit faster and with a spring in her step the closer we get to school because she knows she will be the center of attention and the children will all pet her and make a fuss over her.  For Cherry, as for all of us, there is no such thing as getting or giving too much love.  In return for her unfailing and utter devotion, we have promised Cherry she will never again be hungry or lack for shelter or love.  Sherry is joy and Cherry is ours!

Zsa Zsa and George Adams

Zsa Zsa was adopted on 2/11/04.  Her Shelter name was Cuddles.  She is now 1 year old and loves climbing.  She is very playful.

George was adopted on 12/18/04.  His Shelter name was Shitake.  He is now 2 years old and loves people.  He is a lap cat and loves to snuggle.

Dear Dearborn Animal Shelter,

Thank you for letting us adopt George & Zsa Zsa!  They are a very important part of our family.   When we adopted George, he was very timid.  Now he loves cuddling with his siste, Zsa Zsa.  He loves people and is a lap cat.

Miller Gremban

I am just dropping a line to let you know how we are getting along. We love Miller, he is a great addition to our family. Miller has healed well after his surgery. Miller is full of energy, and is always ready to play, or be loved on. Millers favorite things to do are, play catch, fetch and of course tug of war. Miller loves to run with Shawn, who by  the way runs a mile in about 5 or 6 minutes. We are still working on the dragging part of the walk. Miller is very strong! When we practice walking in the basement he does well, but when we get outside, and he spots something he is interested in, off he goes! Miller has pulled our 65 pound son, off his feet and down the block chasing something.  We are working with Miller, and he can do a few tricks.  Miller likes to chase trucks, we need some direction on how to handle this. We have a long way to go yet, but I think the positives out number the negatives by far.

Just out of curiosity we were wondering, why Miller was in your care? We get asked all of the time, and it had never occurred to us before this to find out.

Thank you so much for Miller!

Sincerely,
Carol A. Gremban

Madison Shackleford

Madison was adopted from the Shelter in November 2003 and as of January 2005 is nearly 3 years old.   He loves all his toys but has a special blue baby that he likes to throw at the vacuum cleaner or a rainbow colored crocodile that plays twinkle twinkle little star.  He also enjoys barking at the people who walk by the house.

Madison has brought joy to our family.  Every day when I come home from school or work, I know that he's going to be right there wagging his tail and happy to see me.  Everytime I'm sad, he's there to give me a kiss.  And every morning I wake up nose to nose with him.  I can't imagine my life without him anymore.  I like to think that he couldn't imagine a life without me and mom.

Patricia and Sarah Shackleford, Dearborn

Angel Kramb

Angel was adopted in September 2004 where her Shelter name was Lena.  Now in January of 2005 she is 5 months old.

Angel will play with us for hours with the rings from the tops of milk or juice containers and if she looses them, she will find one of my daughters plastic bracelets to play with.  Her game is fetch and Angel will bring it back every time and insist on it being tossed again and again.  If you think you can ignore her, she'll either nip at your ankle or put the ring right in your lap, letting you know there's not getting out of it.  At night Angel loves to sleep in bed with us, sometimes even under the covers.  Angel also loves to go for car rides and if it's been awhile, she waits at the door asking when we put our coats on to leave.  Angel has been a great addition and we love her dearly.  She even enjoys seeing other people and visiting at the office.

Simone Schoonfield

Simone was adopted from the Shelter in December 2004 and is now about 2 years old.  She loves
going for walks, chewing toys, and playing with her friend Dusty.

Simone brings tremendous joy to our lives. We love spending time with her and she has become a special member of our family. Simone is a great dog. We feel so lucky to have her and love her so much.

She was pretty skittish when we initially adopted her, but she has really opened up and now is very comfortable in her new home.  Fortunately, I get to go home on my lunch hour and I spend my break with Simone. She is very playful and loves to chew and play with her toys. She is also very social and likes to spend time playing with her
friends in the neighborhood and our mom's dogs. Simone has 2 beds but prefers sleeping with us at night.

Simone is loved by many of our family members and friends. Simone has a sweet, silly, and playful personality and is such a beautiful girl. Thank you Dearborn Animal Shelter and thank you to Kevin for letting us know about Simone.

Harry Sroka

Just thought I'd provide an update on BBC, now named Harry.

After nearly two weeks of hiding under my bed and being a shy boy, Harry has really opened up over the past few days and he's now discovered my entire house and likes to follow me around wherever I go.  He's enjoying the big windows I have in my living room (see attched pics) and he likes laying with mom while she
watches TV.  He's also discovered the top of mom's bed and likes curling up and getting comfy on the pillows.

Harry is eating well and his eye is much better. :) So the dude is doing well!  I finally got some nice shots of him, so I wanted to pass them along.

The warmer weather has allowed me and Harry to spend some time in my 'Florida' room, which he loves because of all the windows and bird activity in the backyard.

Rambo Latham

Hi all,

We would like to share with you our joy and happiness that our adopted pet has given us. When we adopted him from your shelter his name was Shultze.   We have renamed him Rambo and he adjusted to that name well. When we first got him he was a little on the scared side and would growl at us whenever we came to close to him. He hated his cage. Little by little he has learned to trust us and now he never growls at us only when he is playing tug of war. He has brought such joy into our lives we don't know what we did before him. He is so loving and cuddly and spoiled. My husband has never had a pet in his life and was a little leery about having one, but now they are inseparable. Rambo makes us laugh every day. He is always doing something funny. His (Dad) takes him for a ride everyday and while they are out takes him to the park for his daily run. He is fast as a bullet and enjoys running and always comes back with a whistle. We had him groomed and here is the way he looks now. Thank you for letting us adopt this adorable dog.

Gracie Fox

Photo coming soon

We were looking for the perfect dog for months and every time we called on a dog through petfinder they were already adopted. We read about Lori on petfinder at the dearborn animal shelter. She is all black half lab half cocker spaniel and was in need of a good home. We went to the shelter and seen her and immediately fell in love with her. She sat and gave my husband Ryan her paw and she stole his heart.

We have two children.  One is 4 years old and the other is 2 months old. She is great with kids and very calm. She can sit and give paw, roll over, lay down, stay, and fetch. She loves to sit on our laps and give us hugs and kisses. We did change her name to Gracie which we like and we think she likes it better too! She was awful skinny when we adopted her but she is getting healthier every day and loves her new back yard. We are very proud of our new companion and we love her very much!

My husband and I got married and I had 1 dog and he had 2 dogs.   Eventually all 3 dogs went to doggie heaven. We needed to fill the void in our house so we adopted a yellow lab/golden mix which we found on petfinder and drove to Hale Michigan to pick her up. After 10 months of Nikki being alone, we went on petfinder again and saw Dearborn animal shelter had a playful stray they picked up about 8 months old. Bernadette was a shepherd/retriever mix. Now they are best friends and our house is full of laughter with Nikki, Bernadette and a 4&1/2 year old red head boy who loves being their friend. Thank you petfinder for helping us find our family. :)

"D" Bush

My husband and I had been vacationing in Lake Placid, NY. We happened to stop by a pub for dinner. While we were there, there was a benefit dinner for their local shelter. We had both had larger dogs in the past. That moment, we made the decision that as soon as we got back to MI, we would look for a bigger adult dog and it would have to be the perfect dog, good with kids, cats, small dogs and people...a tall order for any dog.

One afternoon, after surfing the Petfinder site, we ended up at the Dearborn Animal Shelter. While we looked around, our eyes locked on a tall, thin black dog with the most beautiful piercing blue eyes. He had just come in as a stray and could not be adopted just yet. We had to wait until Friday at noon to adopt him. The attendants at the shelter had no idea what kind of dog he would be; they didn't know if he was aggressive or personable or destructive. We looked at him and knew he was the perfect dog.

That Friday at 11:30AM my husband and I went back to the shelter, no one had claimed him (we already knew this since we had called everyday). We hovered by his kennel awaiting the 12:01 mark. It eventually came. He was ours and we took him home. Upon entering our house, he immediately checked out every room, every smell and as if to say, "hey, these are my new digs, gotta get familiar with them."

Through a short course of time, our boy "D" became familiar with a lot of things -- a 6 & 5 year old, 3 cats and our Chihuahua. He did very well with all of them. Then came the biggest test ever...we decided to have a 3rd child. It was a difficult and risky pregnancy. "D" would not leave my side while I was pregnant. When our 3rd child was born (Strong and Healthy), "D" has been the most fantastic "Nanny" anyone could ever ask for. He loves the baby. He comes and gets us anytime the baby fusses. We call our son "D's" human puppy. They play in the floor together and he doesn't mind when my Son grabs ah! one of his ears, nose or tail or anything for that matter. It is quite a  wonder to see this 60 pound dog play with a 17 pound 6 month old in such a delicate and loving way. I think these two were meant to be together. I take that back, I think we were all meant to be with "D".

Thank you PetFinder and Dearborn Animal Shelter.
